An athlete from Oyo State, Rofiat Lawal has earned herself, Oyo State and the country at large, a gold medal at the ongoing 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, United Kingdom.
Rofiat Lawal is a 26 year old weightlifter who on Sunday afternoon, won a gold medal in 59kg women’s category after lifting 206kg comprising 116kg clean and jerk and 90kg snatch.
With this feat, she also sets a new Commonwealth Games record in the class.
Rofiat Lawal has however been known for excellence in previous international and national competitions she has participated in, such as winning three gold medals in 2019 All African Games in Morocco and three gold medals at the National Sports Festival held in Edo State in 2020.
