Following his motion on the floor of the House last Tuesday, on the need for the Oyo State Government to upgrade facilities of the Oyo State College of Education, Lanlate and provide grant for it’s students, the Speaker, Hon Adebo Ogundoyin visited the College for an in-person assessment of the situation at the College of Education.

After being taken round by the Registrar, Mr Abioye on behalf of the Provost, Mr Falade Michael Olukayode and other management staff of the Institution, Hon Ogundoyin said the visit was to see the School’s building and the Library Complex awarded to FIAT International Limited since 2006 as well as other completed and ongoing projects in the College.

He stated further that the condition of infrastructure and the general condition of the College of Education is really unimpressive and unbefitting of an institution of learning.

”I decided to have a tour of the College as a follow up to my Motion on the floor of the House. It is disheartening that such big projects like the School of Education building and the Library Complex that would surely aid learning and enhance the status of the College in terms of accreditation of its courses could be abandoned just like that by the Contractor after being paid larger percentage of the contract sum. This is really unacceptable and that’s why the Contractor has been summoned to answer questions on the contract.

”In the motion, I made a passionate appeal to our amiable Governor, who is a lover of Education to help provide grant for the College and to also help in improving its infrastructure. I want to assure that our administration will leave no stone unturned until the College becomes one of the best in the Country when we talk of teachers education. We will also do everything possible to ensure that all the courses in the College of Education are accredited by the National Commission for Colleges of Education, NCCE just like the Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa. ” The Speaker assured.

He expressed deep concerns about the dilapidating states of the only box culvert leading to the College of Education, and promised that the road will be fixed soon.

”The volume and the torrent of water passing under the box culvert is high hence there’s the need to reconstruct and solidify the culvert. No first caller to the College will want to come or bring his or her children to study in the school if confronted by the damaged culvert and other abandoned projects”
