The Oyo state Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Commandant Adaralewa Micheal on Thursday, ordered the deployment of 1,705 officers to some sensitive areas across the state with the aim of ensuring a crime-free Easter celebration period.
Adaralewa, who gave the order through a press statement issued and signed by the State Civil Defence Public Relations Officer, Oyindamola Okuneye maintained that the security of lives and properties of the citizens of Oyo State is not negotiable.
The statement further maintained that Adaralewa Michael disclosed this during the evaluation of first quarter security report of all Area Commanders and Divisions in the state at the command headquarters, Old Nitel Building, Agodi Ibadan.
While briefing the head of all departments and formations in the command, the commandant noted that Christians worldwide will be celebrating Easter between April 7th and 10th to mark the end of lent and to commemorate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
He, however, advised the public to be vigilant during the celebrations and report any unusual movement or gathering in their environment during the festive period to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps or other security agencies in the state.
He stressed that in the mean-time, one thousand seven hundred and five (1705) personnel have been deployed to monitor all sensitive areas, such as churches, motor park, playing ground, recreation centres and all federal and state government infrastructures including NNPC right of ways.
The State Commandant also directed the tactical units as well as the disaster management unit of the state command to assume strategic position for timely response to distress/disaster during the festive period.
While admonishing all Christians and non-Christians in the state to celebrate with absolute moderation and share love to each other during the Easter celebration, the commandant enjoined the Christian faithfuls to reflect on the essence of the death, lessons of passion, suffering, forgiveness, and love of Christ during the Lenten season and pray for the unity of our nation.
