Oyo State Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, has strongly dismissed any doubts about Governor Seyi Makinde’s ability to exceed his first-term achievements, emphasizing the governor’s unwavering commitment to progress in the state.
Speaking during a courtesy call by the management of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at his office, Oyelade highlighted the governor’s dedication to his second term mandate through tangible actions.
In the initial five months of Governor Makinde’s second term, a significant milestone was achieved with the promotion of 1,174 teachers to level 17. This step underscored the governor’s commitment to prioritizing teachers’ promotions without waiting for vacancies to arise.
Under the banner of “Omituntun 2.0,” Governor Makinde’s administration has initiated critical infrastructural projects. Notably, the 34km Oyo-Iseyin express road was commissioned, improving connectivity in the state. Furthermore, 1,533 200-level undergraduates from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso (LAUTECH), were successfully relocated to the newly established Faculty of Agriculture and Renewal Science at Iseyin, demonstrating the government’s commitment to education and its accessibility.
Prince Oyelade also highlighted the government’s investment of over four billion naira in the Strategic Action for Economic Recovery (SAfER) program, aimed at alleviating the plight of the most vulnerable in response to the recent fuel subsidy removal. This includes a one billion naira disbursement to the Oyo State Agricultural Credit Corporation, benefiting farmers across the state.
Just recently, Governor Makinde took a bold step by increasing the state workers’ wage bill by 2.2 billion naira per month. This move came in response to the governor’s new 25,000 naira wage award for state workers and 15,000 naira for pensioners, demonstrating his commitment to improving the welfare of civil servants and retirees.
Recalling a leadership retreat on October 4, where the Governor emphasized the need for performance and discouraged excuses, Prince Oyelade emphasized that the people of Oyo State expect results from the administration. Governor Makinde set a strict timeline for each ministry, department, and agency to submit their two-year Work-Plan to his office, highlighting his commitment to accountability and efficient governance.
NAN Zonal Manager, Mr. Olawale Alabi, commended the professionalism with which the Oyo State government disseminates information, expressing his eagerness to collaborate with the ministry due to their dedication to transparency and effective communication. Governor Seyi Makinde’s second term is poised to build on the achievements of his first term, reinforcing his commitment to the progress and development of Oyo State.
