Oyo state government through the Mineral Development Agency will continue to regulate the activities of miners so as to prevent possible hazard and generate more funds into government coffers.
The Director General Oyo state Mineral Development Agency, Mr Abiodun Oni made this known during the unscheduled inspection to some mining sites in Oke Ogun Area of the state where it was discovered that some miners did not follow the laid down rules stipulated by the agency.
In Igbeti, the headquarters of Olorunsogo local government, the Agency sealed off a marble mining site for non-compliance with the rules and regulations of the agency.
The agency also discovered some mining equipment at different sites which signalled the commencement of mining activities in the area.
Mr Abiodun Oni reiterated the commitment of the Governor Seyi Makinde led administration towards ensuring a safer society through regulation of mining activities.
The team also paid a courtesy visit to the palaces of some traditional rulers in Oke Ogun including Onigbeti of Igbeti Oba Bashiru Abioye and Oloje (RMDM) of Oje-Owode, Oba Abdulrasheed Olagbemiro, to solicit their support in curbing illegal mining activities in their areas.
