…Promises to fix more feeder roads in ogbomoso, Oyo, oke-ogun, ibarapa

As part of commitment of the Oyo state government towards its ‘Infrastructural Revolution’ and enhance transportation infrastructure within Ibadan metropolis, Governor Seyi Makinde has officially commissioned 38.84 kilometers of feeder roads rehabilitation and reconstruction.

The roads include Dualized Mile 110–Mobil/Ring Road–Challenge Car Park (8.5km), Iyaganku–Seventh Day–Oke Bola Junction and Olubadan Stadium Junction–Vale Collage–NUJ Press Council Junction With Spur to Total Filling Station–Radio Nigeria–Kobiowu Estate–Akinyemi Junction, Ring Road (3.85km).

Also, Dualized Bus stop–Agodi Gate–Oje–Beere–Oja Oba–Molete Under Bridge (10.8km), Oke Adu–Ode Aje–Aremo–Orita Aperin(3.5km), Idi-Arere–Popo Yemoja Road–Oke-Ado, Molete Road (1.4km), Oke-Ado–Tribune–Imale Falafia–Ososami–Iyana Adeoyo Junction, Ring Road, Ibadan (2.15km).

The governor in his address on Thursday during the official commissioning held at Ring Road, Ibadan stated that the newly constructed roads are poised to alleviate traffic congestion and facilitate smoother connectivity across various neighborhoods and communities within the metropolis.

Governor Makinde who noted that he usually feels embarssed with repeated project commissioning saying such is merely a routine exercise for his administration stressing that he wants his administration to be remembered for the not just the road projects accomplished but the democratic and government institutions put in place for his successors.

While also reiterating his commitment to complete construction of other roads across different parts of the state promised to particularly construct the road from Iseyin leading to Ikere Gorge Dam and emphasized the importance of accessible roads describing it as a catalyst to economic growth and social cohesion.

The governor stressed that the feeder roads are not just concrete and asphalt but represent the dedication and commitment of his administration to creating a more livable environment for all residents in the state.

He also highlighted the collaborative efforts between the state government and local stakeholders in actualizing the project.The newly commissioned roads traverse key areas within Ibadan, linking residential zones with commercial centers and educational institutions.

According to the governor, the road infrastructure development is expected to ease transportation bottlenecks and enhance accessibility for commuters and motorists alike.

Earlier in his address, the Commissioner for Public Works, Professor Daud Sangodoyin disclosed that the 38.84km feeder roads being commissioned is about of the entire 95.58km was awarded in 2023 for improvement and rehabilitation of the selected roads in Ibadan

“The project was awarded in three lots to aid timely delivery and maximise the remaining period of the dry season at the award stage, a decision which has turned out to be a worthwhile one by virtue of more than a third of the entire project being ready for commissioning now. Lot 1 comprising 70.45km was awarded to Messrs Kopek Construction Limited, Lot 2 comprising of 14.3km was awarded to Messrs Ratcon Construction Company while the Lot 3 comprising of 10.83km was awarded to Messrs Craneburg Construction Company.” Prof. Sangodoyin said.

Different speakers in their separate remarks expressed optimism and gratitude towards the completion of the road projects, citing improved mobility and reduced travel times as immediate benefits while commending the governor for running a people-centered government.

Present at the event are members of the State Executive Council, Elders Advisory Council, Executive Chairmen of Local Governments, Traditional Rulers, Religious Leaders, political party stalwarts and stakeholders and others.
