The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State has firmly denied recent allegations suggesting that Governor Seyi Makinde has ordered all Local Government Chairmen in the state to withdraw from the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) by August 5, 2024. Michael Ogunshina, the spokesperson for the Oyo State PDP, has labeled these claims as baseless and misleading.
Ogunshina clarified that no such directive has been issued by Governor Makinde or any representative of the Oyo State Government. “These allegations are entirely unfounded and are designed to undermine the integrity of Governor Makinde’s administration,” Ogunshina stated.
The allegations reportedly arise from dissatisfaction over the recent Supreme Court judgement on Local Government Financial Autonomy, which Governor Makinde has publicly respected. Contrary to the false reports, the Governor has not taken any steps to subvert this ruling or to exert undue influence over local government funds.
Governor Makinde has consistently demonstrated his commitment to upholding the rule of law and supporting the autonomy of local governments.
The PDP urges the public to disregard these falsehoods and to seek verified information from credible sources.
