The Oyo State Mobilisation Agency for Socio-Economic Development, on Thursday, announced plans to commence a sensitisation campaign against indiscriminate waste disposal across major markets in the state.

The Director-General of the agency, Dr. Morohunkola Thomas, disclosed this during a courtesy visit to the Chairman of Ibadan South-West Local Government Area, Hon. Kehinde Akande, at his office in Ibadan.

Thomas explained that the initiative has become imperative to ensure proper waste management and promote a healthier and cleaner environment in the state.

He said, “Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration has made significant efforts to create a conducive environment for residents by enhancing infrastructure and driving socio-economic development.

“For this reason, we will soon embark on a sensitisation campaign across major markets in the state to discourage indiscriminate waste disposal.”

He added that the governor’s efforts must be sustained and called for collaboration with local council chairmen to ensure effective grassroots participation.

“The governor’s efforts should not be wasted, hence the need for collaboration at the grassroots level through the local government authorities,” he emphasised.

Thomas also urged local governments to help amplify the state government’s initiatives, especially in rural communities.

In his response, Akande said the council is already taking steps to ensure that residents at the grassroots receive accurate and timely information. He also pledged the council’s support and cooperation with the agency whenever necessary.
