Students of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, have staged a massive protest over the renaming of the institution to Omololu Olunloyo Polytechnic, Ibadan.
The students, who came out in large numbers, shut the main entrance gate at the South Campus and other school gates in protest against the recent development.
Recall that the Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, in his brief remarks at the interdenominational commendation service held for the late former governor at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Ibadan, announced that the institution would henceforth be addressed as “Omololu Olunloyo Polytechnic, Ibadan.”
In an earlier reaction, students of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, through a statement signed by the Student Union Government President, Comrade Oladipupo Olamide, expressed their disapproval of the renaming, describing the decision as “unjustifiable and degrading.”
Hundreds of commuters plying the ever busy Sango-Eleyele Road in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, are currently stranded due to the ongoing protest.
