As part of ongoing efforts to enhance agricultural productivity and ensure food security in the state, the Oyo State Government, through the Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency (OYSADA), has commenced the distribution of critical farm inputs to farmers across key local government areas. This intervention is part of the Nigeria Community Action For Resilience and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES) programme, financed by the WorldBank, state government and coordinated by OYSADA under the leadership of Dr. Debo Akande.
In this latest phase of the programme, verified farmers in Atiba, Ibarapa Central, and Ibarapa East Local Government Areas are receiving essential inputs such as maize seeds, fertilizers, and agrochemicals. The initiative aims to support smallholder farmers to boost their yields, strengthen the local food supply chain, and improve rural livelihoods, especially in the wake of the economic challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
At each distribution point, Dr Debo Akande urged farmers to make good use of the inputs and cautioned them against selling or diverting the materials. He reiterated that the support is a direct intervention to uplift agricultural productivity and ensure that farmers can meet growing food demands in their communities and beyond.
The NG-CARES initiative is a nationwide response to cushion the economic impact of the pandemic, with Component 2 focused on increasing food security and safeguarding livelihoods in the agricultural sector. In Oyo State, the programme is being actively implemented with a strong emphasis on transparency, equity, and grassroots reach.
Under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde, the Oyo State Government continues to demonstrate its commitment to inclusive agricultural development, rural transformation, and economic empowerment through strategic interventions like this.
Beneficiaries of the farm inputs expressed appreciation to the government, noting that the support came at a critical time in the farming season and would significantly help them improve productivity and incomes.
This distribution marks another milestone in the implementation of Oyo NG-CARES, reinforcing the government’s mission to build a resilient, self-sufficient, and food-secure state.
