As part of efforts to strengthen grassroots agriculture and enhance food security, the Oyo State Government, through the Nigeria Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES), has successfully conducted another round of farm input distribution in Ibadan South West Local Government Area.

The distribution exercise, which marked the 5th round of the NG-CARES agricultural support initiative, was supervised by Dr. Debo Akande, the Executive Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Agribusiness and the Director-General of the Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency (OYSADA).

A total of 100 farmers benefited from the intervention, each receiving 10kg of maize seed, two bottles of herbicides, and a bag of NPK fertilizer to boost their productivity and support agricultural resilience in the community.

Speaking at the programme, Hon. Kehinde Adeyemi Akande, Chairman of Ibadan South West Local Government, expressed deep appreciation to Governor Seyi Makinde for his administration’s unwavering support to the agricultural sector. He praised Dr. Debo Akande for his visionary leadership and for being the driving force behind the success of agribusiness development across the state.

“The NG-CARES programme has brought tremendous relief to our farmers. I want to commend His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, for prioritising agriculture as a key driver of economic growth. I must also appreciate Dr. Debo Akande, whose tireless work continues to move the sector forward. I encourage our farmers to make the most of these inputs to improve their farms and livelihoods,” he said.

In his address, Dr. Akande reiterated the government’s commitment to building a resilient agricultural economy in Oyo State. He emphasized that NG-CARES is designed not just as an emergency support mechanism but as a long-term investment in the rural economy.

“Through NG-CARES, we are empowering smallholder farmers with the tools and resources they need to be productive and profitable. This is about building resilience at the community level and creating sustainable value chains that drive prosperity,” he stated.

Bolaji Toluwalope, the local facilitator of the NG-CARES programme in Ibadan South West, assured that the input distribution followed due process and guidelines. She noted that the programme continues to promote inclusiveness and transparency in its implementation.

The event was well attended by stakeholders including Alhaja Salau A. Olatoyosi, Head of Local Government Administration (HLGA); Mr. Rufus Tijani, FCA Chairman; Chief Mojeed Tajo Baale Odoona; Chief Mukaila Sanusi, Baale Agbe; and other traditional and community leaders. Their presence underscored the broad-based support for the initiative.

Other key figures at the event included political leaders, youth representatives, women farmers, and community influencers—all acknowledging the impact of NG-CARES on local agriculture.
