Ibadan, Oyo State – The Oyo State Government has distributed farm inputs to farmers in Oluyole, Ibadan North East, and Lagelu Local Government Areas under the Nigeria Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES) programme, a World Bank-assisted initiative aimed at boosting food production and supporting smallholder farmers.
The exercise was supervised by the Director-General of the Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency (OYSADA), Dr. Debo Akande, who charged beneficiaries to make good use of the inputs to improve their yield and income. He warned against selling the items, stressing that the intervention was meant to support farming activities and improve food security in the state.
Dr. Akande also highlighted the achievements of Governor Seyi Makinde in the agricultural sector, noting that the Makinde-led administration has repositioned Oyo State as an agribusiness hub through massive investment in farmer support, infrastructure, and market linkages. He added that programmes like NG-CARES have recorded significant success in lifting farmers out of economic hardship.
In Oluyole Local Government, 150 farmers received maize inputs, with the distribution coordinated by the Farmers’ Community Association (FCA) Chairman, Mr. Adedoyin Toyin, and facilitated by Mrs. Ajayi Omowumi Sara. Executive Chairman of Oluyole Local Government, Hon. Akeem Olatunji, praised the Governor and Dr. Akande for sustaining agricultural interventions that directly empower farmers.
At Lagelu Local Government, 100 farmers benefited from soya inputs. The FCA Chairman, Hon. Waheed Alao, and facilitator, Mrs. Ajilo, oversaw the distribution. Executive Chairman of Lagelu Local Government, Hon. Kamorudeen Mudasiru, commended the state government for its commitment to farmer welfare and thanked OYSADA for transparent delivery.
In Ibadan North East Local Government, the Executive Chairman, Hon. Akintayo, expressed appreciation to Governor Makinde and Dr. Akande for ensuring that farmers in the area were included in the NG-CARES programme.
Traditional leaders present at the events included the Alapatere of Apatere, Chief Olusegun Alamu; the Alatagba of Atagba, Chief Fadeyi Taiwo; the Iyalode Lagun, Chief (Mrs.) Adijat Ajetunmobi; Chief Adejumo Kehinde, Baale Ikija; Chief Rasak Jimoh, Baale Lawande; and Chief Balogun Adesina Abass, Baale Ogbere Idi Osan, among others.
