Ibadan, Oyo State – The Oyo State Government, through the Nigeria Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES) programme, has distributed farm inputs to farmers in Ona Ara and Egbeda Local Government Areas as part of its continuous drive to strengthen food security and support smallholder farmers across the state.

The exercise, implemented by the Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency (OYSADA), was supervised by the Oyo State NG-CARES Project Coordinator, Mr. Olusola Popoola, on behalf of the Director-General of OYSADA, Dr. Debo Akande.

In Ona Ara Local Government, 110 farmers benefitted from the intervention. Executive Chairman, Dr. Kolapo Temitope Glorious, commended Governor Seyi Makinde and Dr. Akande for their unwavering commitment to agricultural development. He further announced that, in addition to the state-supported inputs, the local government will empower an additional 100 farmers with knapsack sprayers and maize seeds.

Dr. Kolapo also disclosed that the Ona Ara New Era Food Day will hold in September, providing farmers with a platform to sell their produce directly to residents at affordable prices. He added that the dualisation of the Ariyo–Odeyale road will commence soon.

The Head of Local Government Administration in Ona Ara, Alhaja Ojewumi Abiodun, also appreciated the state government and urged beneficiaries to make productive use of the inputs, stressing that they should not be sold off but utilised for the benefit of households and communities.

In Egbeda Local Government, 150 farmers received inputs under the NG-CARES scheme. Executive Chairman, Hon. Sikiru Sanda, represented by Hon. Taiwo Job, expressed gratitude to Governor Makinde and Dr. Akande for their consistent support to the farming community. He called for closer collaboration with councillors in the selection of beneficiaries, given their proximity to grassroots realities.

AFAN Chairman in Egbeda, Mr. Francis Dairo, lauded the intervention and encouraged farmers to adopt new agricultural innovations while making full use of the inputs. Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Owonikoko Kareem from Olodo thanked the state government for the timely assistance.

The events in both LGAs were attended by traditional rulers, community leaders, and other stakeholders, all of whom praised the government’s commitment to empowering farmers and fostering rural economic growth.
