The Oyo State Government has successfully concluded the fifth phase of its Nigeria Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES) agricultural input distribution, with 5,640 farmers benefiting from the intervention across the state.
The initiative, coordinated by the Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency (OYSADA) under the leadership of its Director General, Dr. Debo Akande, forms part of Governor Seyi Makinde’s commitment to advancing food security, rural development, and sustainable agribusiness.
Beneficiaries received farm inputs tailored to their agricultural needs, including improved seeds, planting materials, fertilizers, and herbicides. In addition, some farmer groups were empowered with fabricated cassava processors and soybean threshers to strengthen value addition and promote agro-processing within rural communities.
During the various distribution ceremonies, council chairmen and their representatives praised Governor Makinde for prioritizing agricultural development as a key driver of economic growth. They also commended Dr. Akande and the NG-CARES State Project Coordinator, Mr. Olushola Popoola, for their effective and transparent coordination of the programme.
Farmers who benefited from the distribution expressed their appreciation to the Oyo State Government, assuring that the inputs would be put to productive use and not diverted for sale. Many highlighted that the support would enhance their farming capacity and contribute significantly to food production in the state.
Local government leaders pledged to complement the state’s efforts by supporting more farmers in their respective areas and ensuring the sustainability of the programme’s impact.
Introduced in 2020 as part of the post-COVID-19 economic recovery strategy, NG-CARES has grown into a key agricultural support platform in Oyo State, empowering thousands of farmers with the tools needed to improve productivity and income.
Governor Seyi Makinde reaffirmed his administration’s determination to position Oyo State as Nigeria’s agribusiness hub, while Dr. Debo Akande assured that OYSADA would continue to implement impactful programmes and partnerships to strengthen the state’s agricultural sector.
The 5th phase’s success further underscores Oyo State’s leadership in targeted, result-oriented agricultural interventions that directly empower farmers and transform rural communities.
