The Acting Governor of Oyo, Barrister Bayo Lawal on Monday, conducted inspection visits to two major ongoing infrastructure projects in the state, the Senator Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road and the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, which is being upgraded to international standards.

In his opinion he said both initiatives are legacy projects, adding that they reflect Governor Seyi Makinde’s unwavering commitment to economic development through strategic infrastructure investments.

The Acting Governor expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of work at both sites. He revealed that, based on expert assessments, the airport runway is about 75 to 76 percent complete and is expected to be ready for aircraft landing and take-off within the next two to three weeks.

Similarly, the first phase of the Circular Road is projected to be completed within two months, he noted that remaining tasks at the airport include runway markings (referred to as “runway dressing”), installation of the Instrument Landing System (ILS) for night operations, and final touches to the runway’s side structures.

Meanwhile, on the Circular Road project, Lawal inspected the East Wing, spanning 32.5km, and commended the contractors for adhering to specifications and maintaining a good pace of work

Barr. Lawal reaffirmed the government’s commitment to sustaining momentum on both projects through continuous contractor engagement and adequate funding.

“These are key infrastructure projects, and we’re ensuring funding won’t be a barrier. Our goal is to have both projects delivered before the end of the year. In fact, the airport should be ready within the next month, and the Circular Road in about three months.”

When asked whether the Ibadan Airport would be operational in time to receive guests attending the upcoming Olubadan coronation, the Acting Governor said that the decision rests with technical experts and contractors.

“Several tests have been conducted on the runway, all meeting international standards. However, it is up to the experts to determine if it can be used during the coronation period. Let’s not preempt the contractors — they’ll advise us accordingly.”

The inspection underscored the state government’s resolve to prioritize projects that drive economic growth and improve accessibility in Oyo.
