Depot petrol prices have skyrocketed to almost ₦900 per litre in key coastal locations across Nigeria. This increase is due to operational and supply issues at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, which have put pressure on the distribution network.

An operations staff member knowledgeable about the situation stated that the refinery plans to load just a small number of trucks at the moment, as they await the conclusion of current maintenance activities and performance evaluations. “The refinery is operating at a reduced rate, and only limited loading tickets will be released until further notice,” a source said.

On Monday, October 13, 2025, market information revealed that Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) was priced between ₦870 and ₦900 per liter at major depots in Lagos and Calabar. This indicates a consistent increase over the previous week.

In Lagos, where the majority of private depots depend on imported fuel supplies, prices stayed high even after recent adjustments. Aiteo and Pinnacle set their petrol prices at ₦890 and ₦870 per litre, respectively, while Integrated Oil and Gas also sold PMS at ₦870 per litre.

In Calabar, Matrix Energy and Northwest Petroleum had fuel prices of ₦890 and ₦880 per litre, respectively, whereas Sobaz Depot reached a peak price of ₦900 per litre, marking the highest rate reported this month.

“If Dangote’s supply remains inconsistent, depot prices could easily cross ₦900 per litre in the coming days. Marketers are already rationing liftings because of high replacement costs,” a Depot Marketer said.
