Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has sworn in 10 new judges, comprising eight High Court judges and two Customary Court of Appeal judges. The swearing-in ceremony, which took place on December 5, 2024, was in accordance with Sections 271 and 281 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended).
Governor Makinde congratulated the newly appointed judges and urged them to carry out their duties with a sense of responsibility. He noted that the National Judicial Council (NJC) had conducted due diligence and certified them as worthy of their roles.
The governor emphasized the importance of the judiciary in upholding the rule of law, which is a key aspect of the Oyo State Roadmap for Sustainable Development 2023-2027. He noted that the judiciary will play a crucial role in implementing the Rule of Law Enforcement Authority, which was established about seven months ago.
Governor Makinde assured the new judges that his administration will continue to provide the right environment for them to carry out their duties without interference. He charged them to live up to the expectations of their office and protect the rights of the people.
With the appointment of these 10 new judges, the Oyo State judiciary is expected to be further strengthened, and the state’s commitment to upholding the rule of law is reaffirmed.
