The Oyo State Community and Social Development Agency has disbursed funds to 30 communities for new projects aimed at improving access to health care, education, roads and potable water.
The chairman of the agency, Abideen Adeaga, made the disclosure on Tuesday during a training session for representatives of the benefiting communities at the House of Chiefs, Secretariat, Ibadan.
A statement released by the agency’s project Public Relations Officer, Alhazan Rilwan in Ibadan, the state capital, on Wednesday, said the projects were part of the efforts of the current administration in the state to fulfil its campaign promises.
Adeaga explained that the project reflected the most pressing needs identified by the communities, including school buildings, health centres, erosion control, and boreholes.
The chairman commended Governor Seyi Makinde for approving the funding for the projects, which include “construction of culverts and line drainages in five communities, construction or renovation of community health centres in seven communities, construction or renovation of a block of three classrooms in 18 communities and drilling of motorised boreholes in 30 communities.”
Adeaga said, “These projects were meant to expand access to basic health care, education, good roads and potable water, which were part of the effort of the incumbent administration to fulfil the promises made under the popular manifesto tagged ‘Oyo State Roadmap to Sustainable Development 2023-2027 (Omituntun-2.0)’.
“In line with the governor’s strategic moves, OYCSDA is intervening in communities that prioritise culverts and line drainages for improved access roads, building or renovation of school buildings and community health centres.
“By doing this, Makinde’s administration is creating employment, a conducive teaching and learning environment, access to potable water to defeat waterborne diseases, as well as improved access to health care services by all and sundry.”
He added that the governor had increased the maximum grant per community from N15m to N18m due to rising costs of materials, and had also approved a supplementary intervention covering 66 other communities, in addition to the initial 48.
Adeaga said the latest round of projects brought the total number of benefiting communities to 144, with 286 micro-projects implemented across the state.
In his speech, the Deputy Speaker of the state House of Assembly and Chairman, House Committee on Project Monitoring, Abiodun Fadeyi, urged the benefiting communities to embrace due diligence and probity during the project execution exercise, as the state’s Anti-Corruption Agency would be watching.
The Chairman of Agbedo Community Management Committee, Israel Adesiyan, who appreciated the OYCSDA, on behalf of other benefiting communities, said the government’s efforts in alleviating the conditions of various communities deserved accolades.
“We will continue to pray for the Makinde-led administration to end well,” he said.
