As election draws nigh, it has been observed that one of the mischievous tools of disgruntled elements against the government of Engr. Seyi Makinde, is religion.

It is very unfortunate that at a time when Nigeria is trying so hard to promote tolerance and peaceful cohabitation amongst it citizens which are largely divided into two major differences in religion; Islam and Christianity, some persons have rather chosen against the peace that we all pursue for their own selfish interests, to sew seeds of discords amongst the accommodating and liberal people and residents of Oyo State.

There had been previous cases of accusing the present Seyi Makinde led government of being Christian dominated, which was debunked with facts and figures showing that 9 out of 17 Commissioners are of the Muslim faith, and 65% of Special Assistants, Chairmen of Boards and Parastatals are Muslims.

Most recently again, these agents of falsehood have accused one of the fastest thriving Seyi Makinde’s Government agency, Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency (OYSADA) of being anti-islam.

This was contained in a press release by MUSCOY, alleging that the Director-General of the Agency, Dr. Debo Akande, has deliberately shut down the Mosque located in the Agency in a bid to stop the Muslims from performing their religious rites.

It is however necessary to note that contrary to this allegation, the entire praying areas allocated to both Muslims and Christians in the Agency was requested to be closed for reason of hygiene.

It was noted according to report that due to abandonment during the COVID-19 pandemic break, some facilities including the toilet close to the praying areas of both Christians and Muslims, were met in deplorable conditions of stench and disgust, rendering the area not conducive and ideal for worship, and there are ongoing processes to rehabilitate the area and make it conducive again for its allocated purpose.

It is also important to note both Christians and Muslims worshippers were affected by this development, hence unfair and unscrupulous to state that it is a deliberate attack on a particular religion.

The Governor on countless times had showed very beautiful disposition towards both religions, ranging from honouring invitations from both sides, sponsoring pilgrimage from both sides, observing even unpopular holidays in fairness to both religions, constant preaching on tolerance to both faiths, and even recently shared a video of himself while at Israel, of the exemplary cohabitation of the worship centers.

Governor Seyi Makinde has apparently been deliberate towards ensuring tolerance and peaceful cohabitation in contrast to the propositions that state otherwise.

It is therefore pertinent that all well meaning citizens shun distasteful discussions and propagandas that oppose tolerance and peaceful cohabitation amongst all residents of the liberal and accommodating Seyi Makinde led Oyo State.
