The government of Oyo State has bid to host the 2024 National Sports Festival.

A source within the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports told Sportingtribune that the bid documents, signed by the Chairman of the Oyo State Sports Council, were submitted two days ago, along with videos and pictorial illustrations to support the bid.

It should be noted that Oyo State last hosted the Nigerian version of the Olympics in 1979, dubbed Oluyole ’79.

Furthermore, the source hinted that some other states have expressed interest in hosting the biennial NSF, which was established in 1973, but without comprehensive documents to back it up, at least for the time being.

When contacted, Oyo State Sports Council General Manager, Mr. Gboyega Makinde confirmed the rumors, adding that the state’s governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, is aware of the situation.

“We have submitted all of the necessary documents to back the biding and don’t forget the fact that the last time we hosted was in 1979.” Oyo State is also the only South West state to have hosted the NSF only once, whereas others have done so at least twice.

“We also have enough facilities to successfully host the Games, and we can put other facilities in place within a year.” In essence, we are fully prepared to host the National Sports Festival in 2024.”
