In a bid to improve on the security situation and sustain the relative peace and tranquility in Oyo State, the Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Williams has held a strategic and emergency security meeting with the stakeholders of tertiary institutions across the state with a view to foster deepened cooperation.
This was as the Oyo police boss reiterated the command’s zero tolerance for crime and criminality including cultism in tertiary institutions across the state, while making rejig of the security architecture in the state to combat the menace of drug abuse and cultism.

“The Oyo State Police Command under the proactive leadership of CP Adebowale Williams psc (+), fdc, today Wednesday 19/04/2023 engaged the leadership of Student Governing Bodies and its respective Student Union Bodies to an Emergency Stakeholders Security forum at the Command to address issues of security on and off campus”.
“The meeting was borne out of the immediate urgency to review the security architecture around tertiary institutions in the wake of the resurfacing menace of cult clashes and attacks on and off campuses with specific emphasis on Agbowo, Apete, Barika, Benjamin, Sango Eruwa, Gbaremi, Ojurin, Orogun, Ogbomoso and Oke-Ogun axis amongst others”.
“Consequent on the above, it was agreed that the Student Disciplinary Committees in conjunction with the School’s Senate must adopt stringent punitive measures in order to dissuade the increasing numbers of student’s memberships and participation”.
“So also, it was decided that schools’ security surveillance approach would be restructured to be combative and yet consultative enough to partner various relevant sister-agencies especially the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency in check-mating related vices on and off campus including the proliferation of drugs,” the statement read.
Meanwhile, the CSOs and various representatives of student union governing bodies in attendance aligned with the stance of involving parents/guardians/landlords/leaders wielding degrees of influence at effectively checking the menace.
Participants at the meeting included the leadership of student governing bodies and its respective student union bodies, in a bid to address issues of security on and off campus.
Also present at the emergency security sensitisation meeting were; CP Adebowale Williams psc(+),fdc, DCP Jimoh Moshood, Dr Gbade Akinteye (Rector, Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic Eruwa), Dr Wole Akinlabi (Dean of Students Affairs, Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Victor Fadebiyi (CSO U.I), Major MK Gbadamosi, Asp Waheed Ojerinde Ajao(Rtd) and Student Union Representatives from tertiary institutions.
The police boss, has however emphasised the need for repeated sensitisation of the ills of cultism and other related vices amongst students through repeated counselling.
