Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has disclosed that the state will employ more Sanitary Officers to support the efforts of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, in its bid to ensure that the state is ranked among the cleanest states in Nigeria.
Governor Makinde stated this during a special programme tagged “Make Oyo State Sparkling Clean, Own Your Action” held at the House of Chiefs, State Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.
The Governor noted that effects of open disposal of refuse are not only detrimental to and destroy the aesthetic beauty of the state but also poses a severe threat to the public health and consequently leads to the spread of diseases.
He therefore called on the stakeholders to support the sustainable waste management practices by joining hands and make Oyo State truly sparkling clean.
The state commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Abdul-Mojeed Mogbonjubola, said the event was organized for every stakeholder to contribute their quota and address the pressing environment challenges the state is facing.
He added that the state is teaming with innovative minds, calling on Entrepreneurs, and Investors to contribute significantly by developing and implementing eco-friendly solutions that align with the state environmental goals.
Other stakeholders present commended the state government on its relentless efforts to achieve a conducive environment.
