Oyo State Government has granted approval to the request of New Age Tomatoes to train and subsequently employ 3,300 indigenes.
The shortlisted Nasarawa state-trained indigenes will be trained on 3,300 hectares of land to produce tomatoes’ raw materials to feed the factory on 100% capacity utilisation.
The approval was contained in a letter by the Director, Technical Services Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency, J O Ilori.
“I have the directive of his honour, the Director General of Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency, ( OYSADA) to inform you that your proposal has been approved by His Excellency, Governor Oluseyi Makinde having being technically reviewed by the OYSADA technical committee and being found to be feasible,” the statement partly read.
It be recalled that the Managing Director Mr Adekunle Aliu during his visit to Olubadan of Ibadan-land, Oba Lekan Balogun hinted that the Oyo State Government had laid a solid foundation for what his company intends to do recalling that the required staff had been sent on training on tomato production project in Nasarawa by the government and that his company would just be tapping into what the government had done already.
He told the monarch that the purpose of the visit was to brief him on his rapport with the sister company in Italy from where he had just returned, stressing that all the necessary production equipments were ready and his partners well prepared to come down as soon as all the necessary plans at home are put in place.
Aliu acknowledged the efforts of the state government so far, requesting the fast-tracking of the process, especially as it relates to the necessary land required for the project.
“The land requirement is the pivot and pillar upon which the project rests and without it, the idea would remain and rust away in the world of imagination.”
“The expected required land is not what an individual or a community can provide, only the government has such capacity and the advantages to the state are immeasurable when one looks at the employment to be generated and the attendant value chains. Your Majesty, this is our story and we covet your blessings and support in any area, our success in this venture will be a glory to the State,” Aliu further stated.
