The Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES), a World Bank-assisted project implemented in collaboration with the Oyo State Government, is set to strengthen the capacity of extension agents across Oyo State through a specialised step-down training on good animal husbandry, animal health, productivity, commercialization and sustainability.
The training is titled
“Step-Down Training of Extension Agents on Good Animal Husbandry and Health for Improved Productivity, Commercialisation and Sustainability Through the Use of the Adapted National Extension Manual”
The program is designed to equip extension agents with practical and standardised knowledge that will enable them to provide improved technical support and advisory services to livestock farmers across the state. As frontline professionals connecting government interventions and technical knowledge with farmers at the grassroots, extension agents play a critical role in promoting the adoption of improved livestock production practices.
A major focus of the training will be the effective use of the Adapted National Extension Manual, which provides practical guidance on good animal husbandry and livestock health practices. Through the step-down approach, trained extension agents will be better positioned to transfer the knowledge and skills acquired during the training to livestock farmers within their respective areas of operation.
The training will place particular emphasis on practices that can improve animal health, reduce preventable losses, enhance productivity and strengthen the commercial viability of livestock enterprises. It will also promote sustainable livestock production practices capable of supporting farmers’ livelihoods and contributing to the development of the livestock value chain in Oyo State.
The capacity-building program will be held at two strategic locations across the state:
Ibadan Training
Date: 26th – 27th August 2026
Venue: Ibadan Business School
Address: 70 Francis Okediji Street, Off Awolowo Avenue, Bodija Estate, Ibadan, Oyo State.
Oyo Training
Date: 28th – 29th August 2026
Venue: Fasola Agricultural Training Centre (ATC), Fasola, Oyo State.
The initiative is expected to enhance the technical capacity of participating extension agents and improve the quality of livestock advisory services available to farmers across Oyo State. It will also strengthen knowledge transfer and encourage the wider adoption of improved animal husbandry and health practices.
The training reflects the commitment of L-PRES and the Oyo State Government, with support from the World Bank, towards building a more productive, commercially viable and sustainable livestock sector.
Ultimately, the program seeks to ensure that improved knowledge and technical expertise reach the grassroots, enabling livestock farmers to adopt better production practices, improve animal health, increase productivity and build more sustainable and profitable livestock enterprises.
