The First Lady of Oyo state, Mrs. Tamunominini Makinde, on Monday visited some hospitals within the state capital to present gifts, cash and other items to mothers of babies born on Christmas Day.
Mrs Makinde who was represented by the Wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs Ajibola Lawal expressed joy with families of the newly born, saying it coincided with the birthday of Governor Seyi Makinde.
The hospitals visited were Adeoyo Specialist Hospital, Ring Road, Adeoyo Maternity Teaching Hospital, Yemetu, Jericho Nursing Home (Maternal and Paediatric Centre) and Ola Catholic Hospital, Oluyoro.
The first baby was given birth to at 12:33am at Adeoyo Maternity Teaching Hospital, Yemetu, the second baby was given birth to at 4:30am at Adeoyo Specialist Hospital, Ring Road while the third baby was born at 5:28am at the Jericho Nursing Home.
The three babies were given hampers and cash gifts. Also, other newborn babies in the wards were given cash gifts.
Meanwhile, at OLA Catholic Hospital, Oluyoro, children were given snacks and cash gifts.
Speaking while presenting the gifts and cash, Makinde urged mothers to always take good care of their babies describing children as special gifts from God.
She said that they are meant to be taken care of by their parents adding that many anomalies in the society would be better addressed if parents give proper upbringing to children.
Her words: “It is important for parent to take care of their children properly and direct them to the way of God, not only the newly ones but also the older ones.
While urging parents to maintain good hygiene at all times, she called on residents to always show love, saying it was the time for people to share what they have with their neighbors.
“The Governor and his wife are kind hearted people, as a result of this, they send us here to present gifts, cash and words of encouragement to parents of the newly born children,” she said.
Speaking with newsmen, the mothers thanked the Governor and his wife for the kind gesture, saying the gifts and cash would go along way in settling some of their burdens.
The Commissioners for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi; Special Duties, Alhaja Faosat Sanni, and Permanent Secretaries of Ministries among others joined her for the visit.
