…As Approves Major Boost in Pension and Gratuity Payments for Retirees
The Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has approved the increment of pensions and gratuities from 206 million naira to 500 million naira for state Pensioners and 250 million naira to 500 million for payment of pension and gratuity at local government level.
The Governor stated this at the 70th birthday of the state Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Comrade Olusegun Abatan, emphasized that the newly approved increase represents a major boost from the current 206 million which is aimed at addressing the long-standing backlog of unpaid pensions and gratuities owed to retirees by past government.
He further acknowledged the challenges faced by retirees in receiving their entitlement in the past and promised to defray the debt government is owing pensioners before the end of his administration.
Governor Makinde Praised the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, led by Comrade Abatan, for their support and encourage particularly during his re-election campaign.
He also commended the pensioners for their service to the state, Sather deserve to be looked after their old age.
Earlier in his address the celebrant and also the Secretary Oyo State Nigeria Union Pensioners, Comrade Olusegun Abatan appreciated Governor Makinde, for his love for Pensioners through prompt payment of pensions and gratuities.
He also appealed to the Governor not to relent in granting other requests the union place his table, to aid the welfare of Pensioners.
The increment of pensions and gratuities for Pensioners expected to take effect from the next salary payment on July 25th.
