Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has restated his commitment to fixing the 28kilometres Iseyin-Ikere Gorge Dam road before expiration of his second term tenure.

Makinde gave this reassurance during the inauguration of 33kilometres feeder roads within Ibadan, the state capital.

The governor, had on a number of occasions, expressed displeasure

at the abandonment of the Ikere Gorge Dam project but noted that his government was keen on fixing the road to the dam as soon as investors showed the green light to revamp the dam.

Speaking during Thursday’s event held opposite former D’Rovans Hotel bus stop, Ring Road, Makinde said his resolve to fix the Iseyin-Ikere Gorge Dam road was in ensuring that the fixing of road infrastructure spreads across the zones of the state.

With the inauguration of 38.48 kilometres of feeder roads out of the planned 95.85kilometres in Ibadan metropolis, he said the phase two of the project, starting from the third quarter of the year, would see feeder roads in Oke-Ogun, Oyo, Ogbomosho and Ibarapa also fixed.

He, however, asked those yearning for more Ibadan feeder roads to be fixed to tarry a while and await another round of award of contract for feeder roads in Ibadan.

The event saw Makinde announce that there would be asphaltic improvement of the road from Bode – Challenge, then Idi-Odo junction inwards Felele which would be named after Chief Onikepo Akande, a former minister of Industry.

The roads inaugurated on Thursday are

Dualised Mile 110-Mobil/Ring Road-Challenge, Iyaganku-Seventh Day-Oke Bola Junction and Olubadan Stadium Junction -Vale College – NUJ Press Centre Junction with Spur to Total Filling Station-Radio Nigeria-Kobiowo Estate-Akinyemi Junction, Ring Road; Dualised Bus Stop -Agodi Gate-Oje-Beere- Oja Oba-Molete Under Bridge; Oke Adu- Ode Aje- Aremo- Orita Aperin; Idi Arere-Popo Yemoja Road-Oke Ado-Molete Road; Oke Ado – Tribune – Imalefalafia -Ososami-Iyana Adeoyo Junction- Ring Road.

Chairman, Oyo Governor’s Advisory Council, Bolaji Ayorinde (SAN), in his remarks, said Makinde makes governance look easy though it is complicated.

Ayorinde added that the Oyo governor had set standards in governance but noted that people of the state were Oliver Twists and yearned for more dividends of democracy.

In their separate goodwill messages, the South-West People’s Democratic Party Women Leader, Alhaja Bosede Adedibu and the Chairmen of Ibadan North East and Ibadan South West Local Governments, Mr Ibrahim Akintayo and Mr Kehinde Akande, appreciated Makinde for prioritising the interest and welfare of the people of the state.
