The Trade Union Congress (TUC), Oyo state Council, has lauded Governor Seyi Makinde for his prompt implementation of the N80,000 new minimum wage for workers in the state effective from January 2025 as promised.

The union described the governor as Mr “talk-and-do leader,” whose actions match his promises.

A statement by the Chairman of TUC in Oyo state, Comrade Bosun Olabiyi-Agoro, noted that the implementation of the new minimum wage is a significant step towards alleviating the financial hardships faced by workers and, by extension, the people of Oyo State.

“We believe this payment will soothe some level of hardship amongst civil and ensure better living conditions for the average Oyo worker,” the statement read.

The Oyo TUC also expressed optimism that the governor is exploring additional poverty alleviation programs aimed at improving the standard of living in the state.

Furthermore, the union assured the governor of its unwavering support in his efforts to transform the state positively.

“The labor force in Oyo State will continue to partner with the present government in the governor’s drive to change the narrative for the better for workers and all citizens and residents bof the Pace Setter State,” the statement added.

The TUC also called on workers in the state to reciprocate the governor’s goodwill by being diligent and dutiful in their responsibilities.

The union urged workers to prioritize activities that contribute to the state’s revenue generation and to speak up constructively whenever there are issues of concern.
