…As NUP Threatens Action Over Non-Implementation of Pension Increase By Oyo State Tertiary Institutions, BCOS
The Nigerian Union of Pensioners has warned the Oyo State government that it may take action to enforce the Governor’s authority on defiant institutions that refuse to implement the upward review of pensions.
The warning was issued during a press conference held by the State Secretary of the union, Comrade Olusegun Abatan.
Comrade Olusegun Abatan stated that the boards and management of Oyo State Tertiary Institutions and the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS) have refused to implement the directive of the governor, citing the need for a circular from the Governor describing the action as arrogant and restive against Governor Makinde’s command.
He emphasized that the pensioners will not be deterred and will take action if their demands are not met.
Speaking with Newsmen, the Former Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Oyo State Chapter, Comrade Waheed Olojede, called on pensioners in the institutions to get ready for action to press home their demand.
He appealed to Governor Makinde to direct the heads of all institutions to give the pensioners their due.
Some of the members of Pensioners of Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State, Comrade Olusola appealed to the governor to assist the corporation with subventions and to move their pension to the state pension board.
Governor Seyi Makinde had directed the upward review of all pensions to alleviate the plight of pensioners who had not seen an increase in their pensions for over 18 years.
