The Director General of Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency (OYSADA), Dr. Debo Akande in his efforts to ensure transparency, accountability, as well sustaining orderliness at the ongoing Oyo N-Cares distributions of farm inputs to farmers across the local government areas of the state led other officials of the agency to Afijio, Iseyin and other local government areas for official handling over of the inputs to the beneficiaries who are the genuine farmers.
Dr. Debo Akande who was on ground for monitoring and evaluation of the distribution exercise also sensitized the beneficiaries of the Inputs about the importance of the items given to them.
Dr. Debo Akande paid a courtesy visit to Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade in his residence, where he reassured the monarch of Engr. Makinde’s commitment to transform Oyo state economy through agribusiness, as well as his commitment to the welfare of the vulnerable farmers in the state.
He noted that the governor’s commitment to farmers welfare is already yielding results as increased farm produces have been recorded in the state.
While addressing farmers in Afijio local government secretariat, Dr. Debo highlighted OYSADA’s roles in the distribution of agricultural inputs, as well as provision of capacity building and advisory services to 5,640 farmers across local government areas in the state.
The DG noted that the input distribution is in line with Governor Makinde’s directive toward ensuring food security and safe functioning of food supply chains for vulnerable households of the state.
He maintained that the 5th distribution of Oyo N-Cares farm inputs program is under the Nigeria Community Action For Resilience And Economic Stimulus Result Area 2, adopted by the state to assist the vulnerable farmers across all the local government areas of the state.
He said, “N-cares have started for almost four years and we’ve seen the results of it as the produce in the States keeps increasing in terms of quality and quantity which means the farmers have been working very hard. I’m to also play the monitoring and evaluation to be sure that the farm inputs been distributed is getting to the farmers.
“I’m impressed with what I’ve seen so far.
We’ve seen part of the students of YEAP that the governor sent on training to Nassarawa and they also have testified that they are part of the beneficiary.The governor has a very good and high promises for the farmers,so,I’ll implore the farmers in Oyo State to continue to remember the governor in their prayers for wisdom to keep directing the State.
“I’m very optimistic that the combination of we having small holder farmers that are thriving and are growing and expanding and bringing in the commercial farmers as well will create a bigger boost. I’m glad that we have the older ones and the younger generation coming, so, it’s a blend of both and there’s been the building of new innovations and technology into agriculture.” He said.
The Executive Chairman of Afijio local government, Hon Olufemi Aikomo who received the OYSADA DG alongside Hon Adegoke Tajudeen, Hon Suliamon Olayiwola, Alhaja Aderibigbe Adedoyin, Director Of Admin, Mr Akadi Monrufu. Chief Emmanuel Ojeleke Aboyade Baale Agbe Of Afijio LGA among others urged the farmers to make good use of the Inputs for the benefit of mankind.
He stressed that the state Governor in his kind gesture ordered the distribution of the items to support the farmers towards ensuring food sufficiency.
In Atiba local government, Oyo, Hon Wahab Adetunji the Executive Chairman of the local government, received the Oyo N-Cares team alongside Saheed Olasunkanmi Chief of staff, Super for Agric,Hon Afeez Ajibola, Hon. Abdul Razaq Idris, Supervisor for Special Duties, Hon Suliamon Obasanjo, Supervisor for Trade and Investment, Hon Samuel Okikiola, Supervisor for water resources and many others.
In his welcome address the chairman noted that the people of his local council are predominant farmers.
He said, “we are predominant farmers in Atiba Local Government, we have the arable land and we have genuine farmers that are committed to food sufficiency. Farmers are so crucial in our society, they play major roles in our lives and they also contribute a lot to our economic growth.
“I’m urging our farmers this morning to make use of the farm inputs being given to them to the benefit of their state and their people by increasing their efforts in food production. He said.
Mr Wale Ajibade, a commercial farmer that specialized in Cassava, groundnut, Soya beans and maize farming from ward 10, who spoke on behalf of other beneficiaries commended the state Governor for the support.
He said, “We’ve been given NPK fertilizer, maize seeds, soya seeds and herbicide. Many farmers that are here were picked from different villages for the collection of these items.
“This is a welcome development and kudos to Engr Oluseyi Makinde for his focus on farmers and also to OYSADA for the uprightness in delivery of the items. This will go a long way in boosting our economy, as even the less privileged have been given these items for planting, this will surely assist us, and it will definitely give us multiple produce to harvest.” He said.
Also, Mrs Bolanle Aina from Offa Meta area of Atiba local government promised to make good use of the inputs given to her on her farm.
She said, “Today we’ve received soya beans, I was also given fertilizers and chemicals.We are so grateful for this opportunity may God continue to bless the leadership to do, this will definitely uplift more farmers in the state. Bolanle said.
In Iseyin local council secretariat, Dr Debo Akande and his team was received by the Executive Chairman of the local government, Hon Bisi Razaq Faniran, Aseyin of Iseyin who was represented by High Chief Omotoso Tikalosoro, Hon Kehinde Saminu, Hon Biliaminu Hammed, Hon Adekunle Basirat, Hon Gbadegesin Muraina, Hon Ogundare Mojeed, Hon Adebayo Shakirat, , Afan Peter Babalola, Comrade Omotoso Quadri. Mr Tunde Taofiq, Director of Administration Olalekan Ismail, Director of Agriculture Ajibike Ademola, Chief Onadokun Nasiru Olaniyi, Aare Atolu of Ado Awaye, represented Alado of Ado-Awaye and others.
