In a bold stride towards transforming Oyo State into a model of sustainable economic growth, Governor Seyi Makinde FNSE has secured a groundbreaking partnership with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) to drive sustainable agribusiness development initiatives.

The revelation was made by the Executive Adviser on International Development Cooperation and Director-General of the Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency (OYSADA), Dr. Debo Akande, during the Governor’s official visit to Nairobi, Kenya. According to Akande, the collaboration aims to integrate UN-Habitat’s global expertise in sustainable urban and rural development with Oyo State’s ambitious agribusiness agenda, ensuring food security, job creation, and climate-smart practices across the state.

Governor Makinde’s engagement with UN-Habitat’s leadership, Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director, Anaclàudia Marinheiro Centeno Rossbach and the UN-Habibat team explored key areas including rural infrastructure development, value chain enhancement, agricultural processing zones, and environmentally responsible farming practices. The agreement also seeks to strengthen community resilience, promote youth participation in agribusiness, and expand access to global markets for Oyo State farmers.

“This partnership is not just about agriculture; it’s about building sustainable communities, boosting rural economies, and positioning Oyo State as a leading hub for agribusiness innovation in Africa,” Akande stated.

The Governor’s Nairobi visit marks yet another milestone in his administration’s commitment to strategic international collaborations aimed at delivering tangible benefits to the people of Oyo State while setting a benchmark for sub-national governments in Nigeria.
