At least 30 people have been confirmed dead after gunmen attacked Naridon Village in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Sunday night, killing residents and setting houses on fire.

The attack reportedly claimed the lives of women and children, while several homes were burnt.

Residents said at least 30 bodies had been recovered as of Monday, with fears that the death toll could rise as search and rescue efforts continue.

Photographs from the village showed widespread destruction, with many houses destroyed by the fire.

The number of people injured or displaced had not been confirmed as of the time of filing this report, as authorities and residents continued to assess the impact of the attack.

The latest attack has raised fresh concerns over the security situation in Kauru Local Government Area and other parts of Southern Kaduna, where attacks on communities have become frequent.

Residents and community leaders urged the Kaduna State Government, the Federal Government and security agencies to strengthen security in the area and take urgent measures to prevent further attacks.

The attack comes amid another wave of violence in Southern Kaduna.

Last Friday, reports showed that at least eight people linked to two groups of hostages abducted from Ariko and Awon villages in Kachia Local Government Area died while in captivity.

According to journalist and former Kaduna State Government spokesperson, Reuben Buhari, seven of the deceased were among residents abducted from Ariko village, while the eighth was a newborn delivered by a woman kidnapped from neighbouring Awon village.

The victims reportedly died after spending more than three months in captivity under harsh conditions, highlighting the continued insecurity affecting communities across Southern Kaduna.
