The Makinde led administration of the Oyo State Government has made known to the public it plans to partner with relevant Trade Unions in the State, it has also announced its plans to come up with policies channeled towards the empowerment members of every group.
The Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatunbosun said this during the commemoration of Shoe Makers Day, The event which was organised by National Association of Shoe Makers, Oyo State branch, held today 26th of Nov in Ibadan.
He said, part of community engagement strategies by the Engr. Seyi Makinde led administration is the empowerment programme to boost the State’s economy and add value to the entire value chain of the small scale business in Oyo state.
Olatunbosun went further saying that the State Government will, ensure programmes are designed to encourage local production of shoes, noting that capacity building, finance and creativity are vital for the State’s IGR growth. He emphasized that shoe production is a commodity Nigeria has developed competitive advantage in producing, he however noted that processing them into competitive products is still a challenge the Nigerian economy is facing.
He noted that steps are underway by Seyi Makinde led Government to structure empowerment programmes for all Trade Groups in the State, which in turn will attract investment opportunities.
“Oyo State Government will look into some of the ways to improve the informal sector in Oyo State. This will be embedded in the policy which we will quickly look into with trade unions in the State”, he said.
In his speech the Governor of the Association, Kazeem Ayomaya, has restated the Association’s commitment to act as a key enabler to drive the State Government’s economy, through constant production of footwear.
The leader extended his gratitude to the State Government for its consideration to improve the condition of members of the Association.
