For any sustainable development and economic growth to take place in Oyo State, the role of good road infrastructure network cannot be over emphasized.

Road construction and its efficient working system offers a range of potential opportunities such as job creation in agribusiness, industrial and other agro-allied sectors. It also facilitates trade and promote economic inclusion, social and community function in terms of connecting people.

Governor Makinde has identified the crucial role infrastructure development plays in engineering of modern Oyo State. Road infrastructure is the most important of all public assets. People move and perform activities mostly by road. Accessing other transportation services like air, rail and water are made possible by roads.

Every economy requires reliable and good road networks for movement of goods and services. Supply chain will not be possible if there are no good roads that connect cities. For instance, Moniya-Iseyin Road will promote rapid growth in the distribution of goods to markets centers and urban areas.

In the past, Moniya-Iseyin Road has been dilapidated for several years owing to bad governance of past administrations in the State, thereby causing untold mobility hardships.

His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde on assumption of office, has committed to investing in infrastructure that will facilitate unprecedented economic development to improve the well-being of the people of Oyo State.

It is on record that construction of Moniya-Iseyin Road was initially awarded to a faceless contractor for a whooping sum of Seven Billion Naira (N7B) by late Governor Ajimobi led administration with nothing to show for it.

However, Governor Makinde suspended the contractor and the contract revoked as a result of inconsistencies and under-performance on the project. Taken into consideration the significance of the road to the State’s economy, Gov. Makinde made a quick decision and engaged the service of an experienced contractor to complete the project within a stipulated period of time.

The completion of Moniya-Iseyin Road construction is pivotal to economic development of Oke-Ogun areas which serve as Oyo State food basket zones.

The road infrastructure network will improve connectivity to farms and increase the amount of public transport services which will enable citizens to access a wider range of public amenities in the State. The impact of these parameters cannot be quantified in monetary and economic terms.

The road network provides connectivity to other roads which are linked to the wider State economy. Before the construction of Moniya-Iseyin road, parents withdrew their children from schools because the road was not motorable. Now, the road serves as an important economic role to the general public.

Transport infrastructure development is crucial to the production and distribution of farms goods. The movement of goods and services are now running smoothly, thanks to Governor Seyi Makinde’s astuteness and compassion. There are reduction in transportation costs including travel times, vehicle operating costs, loss of manpower and avoidable accident occurrences have been reduced drastically as well.

Roads are arteries through which economy pulses, Moniya-Iseyin road construction is a major economic boost to Oke-Ogun zones in particular and Oyo State in general.

The road has opened up major agriculture zone of Oyo State as farm estates, manufacturing sectors and settlements are now springing up along the road. This will boost economic sustainability in the State as more people including the youths are now participating in Agribusiness, thereby creating employment opportunities. It is a value added to the socio-economic development of the State.

It is instructive to note that Moniya-Iseyin road also hosts the once moribund and regarded as unprofitable Pacesetter Quarry and Asphalt Plant which is now beaming and functional with activities by producing Asphalt in large quantities to build roads in Oyo State. The economic implication of reviving the Pacesetter Quarry and Asphalt Plant alone is a major economic boost and increased internal generated revenue in Oyo State. More people are employed, earning a living and contribute to economic growth of the State. This was made possible as a result of Governor Makinde’s vision on infrastructural development.

Moniya-Iseyin road infrastructure also opened up Oke-Ogun zones as tourist destination. The zones are well endowed with culture and heritage for tourist attractions which have not been harnessed by past administrations. A move towards enhanced tourism has been made possible by the road network which will boost economic assets of the State.

Frankly speaking, the past administrations in the State had failed the citizens in the areas of infrastructural development economically, politically and socially and other aspects of governance making it obvious for the general public to see the good works of Governor Makinde fulfilling his campaign promises as a promise keeper.

In last two years, Governor Seyi Makinde has embarked on the mission of economic growth and development of road infrastructure thereby reducing deficits in the State. His achievements in all sectors within the short period of time had surpassed eight years of late Governor Ajimobi led administration.

The construction of Moniya-Iseyin road is an attestation to Governor Makinde’s good governance in providing infrastructure for the betterment and welfare of the people.

The good people of Oyo State had handed over the mantle of leadership and affairs of the State to His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, who is indeed lifting the citizens from ‘poverty to prosperity’ as evidence in his handling the economy of the Pacesetter State.
