Oyo State Road Maintenance Agency (OYSROMA) Chairman, Honourable Busoye Ogunlade lead the management team of staff, OYSROMA to inspect the washed away Eruwa/Lanlate bridge, Otumo at Ibarapa East Local Government area.

The bridge which was washed away on Tuesday due to the heavy rain fall has paralysed activities of motorists and traders along the road.

Honourable Busoye Ogunlade said that this is an unfortunate accident which the Government of Oyo State will make sure that is resolved quickly, as Governor Seyi Makinde led administration has zero tolerance for pot holes and deplorable roads.

Speaking during the inspection, the Chairman Ibarapa East Local Government, Honourable Obalowo Olugbenga Abiodun said that the sad thing is that the rain affected most roads that link adjourning town and villages, making it unmotorable and inaccessible also the alternative route, Oke-ipin is also damaged by the heavy rain fall.

“Also the residence of Temidire village whose main Occupation is farming are stranded in their village because the road cannot be plyed.

”Since the accident occurred, measures have been taken as excavator is on ground at Lanlate to create another route for the people of Temidire village, though it is not yet motorable but residence can now ply the made road by leg”

The Chairman, Ibarapa East Local Government Honourable Obalowo Olugbenga Abiodun therefore appealed to the residence of Lanlate and its environs to be patient, as very soon everything will be resolved.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Works and Infrastructure, Mr. Seye Adeleye said the essence of the inspection is to assess the Eruwa/Lanlate damaged road, saying that the culvert has been washed away by the heavy rain fall which will need total replacement.

“Along those alrenative route, we also saw opportunities for some sort of palliative repair pending when major works are done, as the rain are upon us sometime it is very difficult to do concrete works in the rain
So we have to find alternative pending the time we can do what is required”

“Present here are a couple of Agencies like OYSROMA; Ministry of Public Works and Transport and Ministry of Local Government, the whole Idea is to first access and secondly come up with a plan”

“We have to be cognisant that this is an Agricultural area, so it is going to be heavy trucks and their is a teeming youths population as well as school children that needs to cross from one part of the road to another, in essence we will have to come up with a plan both immediate and long-term”

Meanwhile, the Chairman landlords Association, Mr. Majengbasun Adebayo Stephen said that they have been experiencing the menace of flooding along that road for the past five years.

He therefore appealed to the Oyo state Government to come to their aids, as it is beyond them.

He stressed that the little culvert which was constructed in 1971 for the past Fifty years, has expired as it cannot withstand the massive flow of water again.

We assured them that Government will take action and make the bridges accessible for motorists and residents.
