In order to maintain the major roads and other infrastructures in the State, the Oyo State Government has warned residents to desist from illicit dumping of refuse in waterways, and seeks support of residents for proper waste management.

This caution was given by the Chairman, Oyo State Road Maintenance Agency (OYSROMA), Mr. Ogunlade Soladoye, while inspecting roads along Ibadan metropolis.

According to him, his inspection was in response to complaints of residents on radio and the Oyo State Government Feedback about potholes on various roads.

He noted that the Oyo State Government has invested so much funds into road infrastructures, to allow such projects to be damaged due to lack of proper maintenance, and therefore urged the residents, who are the major beneficiaries of these infrastructures to cultivate maintenance cultures.

Ogunlade promised that the agency under his supervision will strictly adhere to the Seyi Makinde’s government policy of ‘Operation Zero Tolerance for Potholes’ across the State, and that rehabilitation would commence in due course.

He went ahead to appreciate the Governor for embarking on what he termed as legacy projects, which included massive road construction and rehabilitation, which he stated that it has placed the state on the global map.

“When roads are constructed and become motorable, investors would be willing to invest in the State’s economy, thereby creating job opportunities for the teeming youths in the State. And this agency, under my supervision, will adhere strictly to the present government’s policy of ‘Operation Zero Tolerance for Potholes’ across the State”, he stated.

Among the roads inspected are Liberty road, Molete – Challenge road, Mobil – Oluyole – Apata roads and he directed that the Bill of Engineering Measurement and Evaluation BEME be prepared for immediate repair of the damaged parts of the roads.

Recall that the State Government just acquired 1,000 trolley bins, 15 tricycle machines and an Amphibious Excavator for evacuation of wastes and flood control in the State.
