The Oyo State Housing Corporation is one of the oldest and most dignified parastatals in Oyo State, and has been responsible for spectacular projects in the State since inception such as the Bodija Estate.

According to a former Governor of the State, now the Otun Olubadan of Ibadan land, High Chief Rashidi Ladoja, the Corporation came into existence to address the issue of a decent and safe environment; having all it takes to ensure the realization of its objectives; and needs only to keep the objectives and the dreams of the founding fathers of the Corporation alive, and complement with modernization.

The Seyi Makinde administration has been up to the task, as the Corporation under this administration has been committed to upholding the vision of the Corporation by visiting old projects, modernizing, and implementing new projects.

A few days ago, the construction of the Senator Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja Government Reserved
Area was flagged off, where Gov. Seyi Makinde stressed that the construction of G.R.As in the State is necessary to cater for the growing population, and simultaneously generates revenue for the State.

To ensure effectiveness and proper implementation of these housing projects, these processes are complemented by Public Private Partnerships, whereby the Government provides the lands, and the private developers develop them. There is however also, a form of modernization of the schemes which involves partnership with private firms to provide amenities in these G.R.As, then sell to members of the public to develop.

These housing schemes are neither subtle nor trial and error as they are fulfillments of the Seyi Makinde’s Roadmap for Accelerated Development in Oyo State, to facilitate a private sector driven housing scheme through variants of public-private partnership(PPP) initiatives.

It is also important to note that some other G.R.As which includes the Engr. Lere Adigun GRA and the Senator Isiaka Abiola Ajimobi GRA, are also being developed by the Seyi Makinde administration.

One of the notable product of this scheme is the ongoing construction of 360 housing units at the Ajoda New Town Estate, which will include 2-bedroom semi-detached houses, 3-bedroom semi-detached houses, and 3-bedroom detached houses on 13 hectares of land provided by the Government while the developers solely finance the project; and to be replicated across other parts of the State.

All these are in a bid to build social housing and create plots of land for the downtrodden, according to the former Chairman of the Housing Corporation, now Deputy Governor, Barr. Bayo Lawal, who also stated that it is a way of encouraging the younger generations to move out and live in more decent houses than their fathers’.

Housing remains one of the basic amenities of life, and the availability and affordability of it lays a foundation for every other form of development in any society as it enhances safety, privacy, and productivity amongst other impacts, which concurrently improves the State and country at large.

We can therefore say, Engineer Seyi Makinde is basic, yet outstanding.
