Engineer Seyi Makinde, the Governor of Oyo State, has said that his administration has finalised plans to begin detaining those who support beggars in the state.

On Saturday, Governor Seyi Makinde made the proclamation while participating in Mayor Isaac Brown’s programme on Fresh FM Ibadan.

“We moved beggars from the streets to a centre in Akinyele’s local government,” Makinde stated.

“We spent a lot of money on the centre, and we fed them every day, but sadly, after a few days, they started returning to the streets.”

“We have found that certain people are their sponsors and are utilising them to further their agenda. They are the ones requesting that they go out and beg for charity, and upon their return, they will take the money from them.”

“We have a centre for internally displaced persons in Kishi, the headquarters of the Irepo local government area of Oyo State”.

“As long as beggars continue to pose a threat to society, we will continue to move them to the centre”.
