A former Commissioner for Finance during the administration of late former Governor Abiola Ajimobi, Hon Bimbo Adekanmbi has corroborated the claims by Governor Seyi Makinde that money in tune of billions of naira were allegedly embezzled by the immediate past administration.

Adekanmbi was seen in a video interview conducted by Awarawa Yoruba newspaper during an empowerment programme he organized for his constituents where he revealed that an individual (name withheld) in the government of the APC in Oyo State looted the sum of N30 billion.

Speaking further, he alleged that another individual (name withheld) who is a candidate of a political party now contesting in the 2023 elections (name withheld) looted the sum of N10 billion from a bank.

Adekanmbi who commended Governor Seyi Makinde for his sterling performance urged the people of the state to beware of who they will cast their votes for in 2023 adding that those who looted their treasury are the ones seeking elective positions in 2023.

According to him, “In couple of days time, I will expose those who looted Oyo State money, I have documents to what I am saying.”

He however urged beneficiaries of his empowerment programmes to make judicious use of the tools and other items given to them.

Recall that Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has said he will recover the funds stolen during the administration of his predecessor, late Senator Abiola Ajimobi. He said he had written a letter to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to probe the company used to siphon the state’s funds.

A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Taiwo Adisa, said the Governor spoke in Ibadan on Saturday during a programme, State Affairs, on Splash FM that his administration had taken bold steps to block and remove ghost workers and pensioners from the payroll.

He added, “Let me give you an example – when I came in, I looked at how some monies were spent and I believed it was the Paris Club refund they moved, which was about N7bn to N8bn, to Oyo State Road Maintenance Agency.

“This is an agency that operates normally on a budget of about N45m every month but this money came in around November 2017, and in early 2018, they started spending the money.

“When we came in, we discovered they finished spending the money on nothing within one year. They stole the money and I know those behind the stealing and I am after them right now. There is a company called Chinese Global. They said they are Chinese people but we know the people behind it. The company has been shut down as we speak.”

The Governor said he had already questioned the General Manager of OYSROMA on the issue, and he was told there were no fresh recruitments or contracts awarded.

Also, on 5th August, 2020, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State vowed that his administration would recover the N96 billion allegedly stolen under the administration of late Senator Abiola Ajimobi, his predecessor.

A statement by Makinde’s Chief Press Secretary, Taiwo Adisa, quoted the Governor as saying this on Wednesday at the commencement of the construction of the 21km Ajia-Airport-New Ife Expressway Road, in Ajia town.

The 21-kilometre road project was awarded at the cost of N8.5 billion.

Though the Governor failed to mention Ajimobi’s name, he stated that the funds stolen in 96 months preceding his assumption of office would be retrieved.

It would be recalled that Ajimobi ruled the State for eight years which is the same as 96 months before Makinde took over.
