On December 7, 2023, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to making the state business-friendly.

The governor said that the state would continue to work with partners and stakeholders on Agribusiness to develop the State’s economy. He made this statement in his office while receiving the Deputy High Commissioner, Government of Canada, Teshome Nkurumah, and Trade Commissioner Assistant, Benedicta Emovuon, on a courtesy call.

The state, according to the governor, is still welcoming to serious cooperation and business.

Makinde, who expressed optimism that there are many potential areas for collaboration between Canada and Oyo State, noted that the state’s extensive arable land, sizeable solid mineral deposit, and tourism potential all contribute to its excellent business prospects—especially in light of recent World Bank incentives on ease of doing business.

Nkurumah mentioned earlier in his address that the group was organizing an Agricultural outreach and trade promotion in the state to identify potential growth areas and chances to foster partnerships.

“It is indeed a pleasure to be here. We are conducting an Agricultural outreach, which is one of the sectors we focused on for trade promotion with Nigeria.”

“So, we are here to listen and learn. The whole goal is just to reconnect, get acquainted to understand what your priority is and how you are aiming to develop the Agricultural sector in the State.

“We equally want to see if there is an alignment between the Canadian priorities and government priorities, and where we can do business.”

In a similar vein, the Canadian government has stated its willingness to work with the Oyo State government on Agricultural matters.
