Oyo State government has set- up a minimum wage review committee in the state.

The committee which comprises of the Chief of staff, SSG, Head of service,SA, Labour, state labour leaders, commissioners,Ps Finance, Ps, Service Matters was set up on Monday presided by the state governor, Seyi Makinde at the Executive Chambers,Governor’s office,secretariat, Ibadan purposely to review worker’s minimum wage.

Speaking, Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde while meeting the labour unions led by National Labour Congress,Oyo State, Kayode Martins and Trade Union Congress, Olatunbosun Olabiyi applauded the unions for its support and commitment which enabled his 2nd Term in office with no available trust deficit between the government and labour in the State.

Makinde noted he is aware of unpaid staff deductions on the state, maintained that decrease in the federal allocation to 6.2BN, despite 2.6BN internally generated revenue all to the tune of 9.4Bn could not enable the payment, stressed his administration will not fail in capital development in the state.

In his reaction, Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress in Oyo State, Comrade Kayode Martins said minimum wage review is overdue , lamented negative effects of fuel subsidy removal on every citizen, added that 78 percent of his salary is at stake, called state government to set up mechanism for palliatives as to cushion effect on its staff.

Martins enjoined formalization of leader unions’ meeting with the state government quarterly to oil smoother relationship between the two parties.

Meanwhile, Oyo State governor maintained that alignment on negotiation on minimum wage will have been attained within the next 8 weeks as to a positive effect on the state.

The meeting had in attendance Labour unions leaders, Head of service,Bunmi Oni, SA,Labour Bayo Titilola-Sodo, state advisory committee, Amb. Taofeek Arapaja, wife of former governor, Mutiat Ladoja ,traditional leaders among others.
