Oyo state Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Friday, disclosed that his administration is youth friendly, saying the priceless contributions of youths to national development in the past fifty (50) years of fostering national unity can not be overemphasized.

The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Alhaji Barrister Abdul-Raheem Adebayo Lawal, at the official opening and swearing-in ceremony of the 2023 batch ‘B’ (Stream 1) corps member deployed to Oyo state, held at the permanent orientation camp, Ogbakuta, Iseyin, said that over the years, successive batches of Corps Members have been consistent in demonstrating their commitment to building a better Nigeria through their contributions to education, agriculture, healthcare and innovations in infrastructural development.

He noted that the NYSC has been commended for the conduct of fair and credible elections across the country, stressing that it was through the same elections that Makinde led administration got a renewed mandate to continue the good work started during the first term.

He said: “Our administration is youth friendly, so I want to enjoin all of you to join forces with the good people of Oyo state in our resolve to stimulate and accelerate economic and social development.”

“Permit me to impress upon you that, the Orientation Course comprises methodically planned activities with which you would be engaged during the next few weeks. You will be learning about different initiatives which is the first step to prepare you for the task and challenges of the Service year. You will have experiences that will help you grow and develop to be more productive and resourceful. Of utmost importance is the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme which has been specifically developed to mitigate the high rate of unemployment bedeviling the country. Through SAED, at no cost you would be opportune to delete your name from the list of graduates traversing the nooks and crannies of the nation, seeking for employment after their Service Year.”

“Let me also use this occasion to assure you that our administration has put in place the necessary machinery to give security agencies in the State the support they need to efficiently carry out their duties and responsibility of securing lives and property in the State including that of Corps Members is very paramount to us. We stand as one of the highest paying State in Nigeria and we remain committed to ensuring that Corps Members in our dear State live comfortably.”

“Finally, I am glad to inform you that you are very fortunate to be posted to Oyo State. There is no gainsaying that Oyo State is one of the most stable, safe and prosperous States in Nigeria. This is evidenced by the warm and pleasant nature of her people basking in a very rich cultural heritage. Our people are very accommodating and you should not be afraid of integrating with your host communities.”

“Dear Compatriots, as you remain focused, take some time to reflect on your plan for post-service life. I wish you all a successful and rewarding Orientation exercise.”

“It is on this note that I formally declare the 2023 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1) Orientation Course open. Thank you and God bless”, he said.

The Governor, Seyi Makinde, who was represented by his deputy Bayo Lawal, also seized the opportunity to inspect the progress of the multipurpose hall project.

He urged the NYSC to also get in touch with Brent Sugar and other private companies in Iseyin and Oyo state for extra support and gave the assurance that the Oyo State government and the Chief judge of Oyo state, I.S. Yerima, will work together when they return to Ibadan.

He further emphasised that NYSC is a scheme for national unity, stating that Oyo state will continue to promote national unity, and he also asked the NYSC Cordinator to also see him in Ibadan to check how the initiative is going to fly.

The state, he said, is one that prioritises the welfare of young people.
