Oyo state Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde has assured students of payment of bursary award, saying that it will be disbursed in due course.
Governor Makinde who explained that he has signed all necessary documents for the payment of the bursary award, made this known during a Students’ Legislative Summit organised by the Speaker of the state, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin in conjunction with the Students’ Representative Council, University of Ibadan held at the International Conference Centre.
The Governor also advocated more involvement of youths in government through active political exposure for vibrant leadership positions.
The convener of the programme, Rt Hon. Ogundoyin explained that, the objective was to educate students about the legislative process and its significance in shaping national development.
The Minister, of State for the Youth development, Mr. Ayodele Olawande and the President, 8th National Assembly, Sen. Bukola Saraki through the Special Adviser, Strategic Communication to the Plateau State Governor, Dr Golus Timothy and the state Chief Judge, Justice Iyabo Yerima, represented by Justice Ezekiel Oyeyemi charged youths to maximize opportunities and engage actively in government.
The Chairman of Speakers, (Southwest), who is also the Speaker, Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Stephen Aribasoye, the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Olanike Adeyemo and the Director General, Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN Commission), noted that, all sectors must have quality and strong legislature for the nation to move forward.
The Speaker of the University of Ibadan Students’ Union, Students’ representative council, Olamide Omotunde, appreciated Governor Makinde and Ogundoyin for building the next generation of legislators who would be effective, proactive, and innovative.
