Oyo government on roads reconstruction Makinde on Nigeria Seyi Makinde
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has called on residents of the state to remain united, law-abiding and committed to their civic responsibilities, stressing that building a greater Oyo State requires the collective effort of government and the people.

The governor made the call in his New Year broadcast to the people of the state, according to a statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, on the first of January 2026.

Governor Makinde noted that while government provides leadership and direction, it cannot single-handedly build the future of the Pacesetter State without the cooperation, productivity and peaceful conduct of its citizens.

He appreciated the people of Oyo State for their resilience, trust and support throughout 2025, describing the year as challenging but surmountable. According to him, despite being hard pressed on several fronts, the state and its people were not crushed.

The governor highlighted key achievements recorded by his administration in the outgone year, including the commissioning of major infrastructure projects in Ibadan and significant progress on the 110-kilometre Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road, which he described as a strategic economic corridor designed to unlock growth, attract investment and create jobs.

Makinde also said the state’s drive to transition from a consumptive to a productive economy received a major boost through the successful hosting of the Oyo State International Agribusiness Summit and the International Tourism Summit in 2025. He added that the state enjoyed relative peace during the year despite heightened insecurity in other parts of the country.

Reflecting on the challenges of 2025, the governor said the period tested the resolve of the state but laid the foundation for greater achievements ahead. He noted that preparations, including the signing of the 2026 Budget of Economic Expansion, had positioned Oyo State for economic uplift and development in the New Year.

According to him, leadership during difficult times requires calmness, focus, and adherence to principles. He added that his administration chose consistency over distractions, due process over shortcuts, and long-term stability over short-term applause.

On economic diversification, Makinde said the administration took decisive steps to strengthen agriculture through structured agribusiness initiatives that connect farmers to markets and investors to opportunities.

He reiterated that the International Tourism Summit held in August 2025 was a clear statement of intent to reposition tourism as a viable economic sector capable of creating jobs, preserving culture and attracting global partnerships.

The governor also acknowledged the security and environmental challenges experienced during the year, assuring residents that the government had worked closely with security agencies, strengthened coordination, and improved emergency preparedness to protect lives and property.

He added that the administration remained committed to the welfare of the people, noting that salaries of civil and public servants were paid consistently on the 25th of every month, with an additional 13th-month salary paid in December.

Calling on residents to continue supporting his administration, Makinde said while 2025 tested the state’s resolve, 2026 would reward its preparation. He urged citizens to remain cooperative, responsible and united, stressing that progress is strongest when it is shared.

The governor concluded by expressing gratitude to the people for their resilience and trust, praying for renewed strength, peace and prosperity for every household in Oyo State, and wishing residents a happy and prosperous New Year.
