In an effort to provide quality healthcare services to Nigerians, the Federal Government of Nigeria has stated its desire to revive Primary Healthcare Centers in every ward across the nation, using Oyo State as an example.
This was revealed to reporters on Monday in Ibadan by Dr. Faisal Shuaibu, the Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA).
Mr. Shuaib was in Ibadan, according to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), for an inspection visit to a few PHCs in Oyo State.
He praised the State Government’s efforts to provide appropriate immunization, especially those of the Executive Secretary of the Oyo State Primary Health Care Development Board and other members of the Health Ministry.
“Looking at the data, Oyo State is one of the best performing state when it comes to the stage 3.0 roll out of the integrated COVID-19 campaign, which was launched in Abuja three weeks ago.
“We are very proud of the work going on here. We shouldn’t only look at what is not working, we should also look at what is working well.
“We are here today to encourage them and commend them for the outstanding work they have been doing as well as tell them that Nigerians appreciate them,” he said.
In the last four years under President Muhammadu Buhari’s leadership, the Federal Government, according to him, has renovated over 4,000 PHCs. He added that the PHCs would be revitalized by the government.
He added that the government would make sure health professionals received regular training so they could provide Nigerians with high-quality medical care.
“We are doing better than how it was a few years ago; our ambition is to have at least one functional PHC per political ward across the country”, he added.
The NPHCDA boss added that revamping PHCs was the only solution, notwithstanding the enormous sums spent on structures in the health system.
He emphasized that the PHCs would be revived by hiring highly qualified healthcare professionals, improving employee pay, providing security, and putting in place infrastructure.
According to Mr. Shuaib, providing quality healthcare for Nigerians is a top concern, and every effort is made to guarantee that whenever they use the facilities, Nigerians are treated with respect and compassion.
According to Mr. Shuaibu, there is a need for sufficient human resources in order to have knowledgeable and courteous staff to care for patients at various health facilities.
“Nigerians must be respected, given medication and managed well to recover from their illness”, he stated.
Dr. Bode Ladipo, the State Commissioner for Health, responded by describing the visits as a testament to the State Government’s efforts to provide Healthcare at a cheap cost.
Over 351 PHCs are now being renovated statewide, according to Ladipo, who also stated that by the end of the current administration, all PHCs will be completely operational.
He claims that in the interim, people have had easy access to low-cost healthcare services right outside their front doors.
