The Executive Chairman of Oyo State Road Transport Management Authority (OYRTMA), Mogaji Akin Fagbemi has disclosed that the personnel of the agency has recovered stolen Toyota Camry causing obstruction at Agodi Gate area of Ibadan.
Fagbemi made this known on Monday saying that the abandoned stolen vehicle was recovered on Saturday by officers of the agency during a routine operation to ensure that sanity was restored to the area due to heavy traffic.
He however advised the car owner to secure a police report since the owner had earlier reported the incident at Eleyele police station before the vehicle could be released to him.
In his words, the General Manager of the agency, Comrade Ayoade Adeoye gave full account on how the vehicle was recovered.
“On Saturday , during our normal routine of patrolling in our area, we discovered that this particular vehicle was seen at obstruction at gate around 8am on tat particular day and was parked at the middle of the road, no one was found inside the vehicle and was creating a lot of traffic jam for the motorist plying the gate axis.
“So when we got there we waited for few minutes when we discovered that nobody came out to claim the ownership of the vehicle and we brought in towing van and we removed the vehicle to allow the motorist to have easy movement on the road and brought down the vehicle to the our administrative headquarter.
“During our normal routine as well, we searched the vehicle and found an I.D card at the front of the vehicle with the name of a medical doctor on it and the vehicle was not lock, so we checked the I.D card we found a phone number which was owned by a medical doctor, we called the number and it was responded that the vehicle was stolen on Friday night, according to the doctor that owned the vehicle, he said the vehicle was last seen on Friday around 10:30pm and we found the vehicle on Saturday around 8am during our normal operational activity and brought the vehicle down here and we called the owner to come with evidence to prove the ownership of the vehicle and after thorough interrogation we discovered the doctor was the owner of the vehicle and the vehicle will be handed over to him.
He advised the general public to always be security conscious and ensure they install trackers on their vehicle in order to monitor the nefarious activities of the people of the underworld
Comrade Adeoye admonished that “Our advise to the public is let everybody be mindful of his or her property and be security conscious, we have many security gadget we can install on the vehicle that can assist even when the vehicle is eventually stolen, like tracker and some other security tracker to have all this there, it will help in recovered and our officer will continue to help the public in ensuring their safety.
“Whenever we find vehicle parked at the obstruction of road users , we will take it to our office and this is not the first time, infact this year we have recovered more than four stolen vehicle.
“If we find vehicle parked unlawfully on the road, it will be impound and bring it to our office” he said.
In his response, the vehicle owner, Dr Abdullahi expressed profound gratitude to the government of Engineer Seyi Makinde, especially the Executive chairman, Mogaji Akin Fagbemi, the General Manager, Ayoade Adeoye and the entire men and officers of the agency.
He said Fagbemi has transformed the moribund agency to a world class standard, describing the agency as the most efficient government agency in the state.
