Oyo State government said its only interest in who occupies the stool of the Alaafin is someone who emerges according to the Alaafin Chieftaincy Declaration laws of the state.

The government spoke through the Commissioner of Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr Wasiu Olatunbosun while briefing newsmen after the State Executive Council Meeting which held at the Executive Chamber of the Governor’s Office, Agodi-Secretariat, Ibadan on Tuesday.

The meeting was presided over by the President-of-Council, Governor Seyi Makinde.

Responding to question, Olatunbosun who was accompanied by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Taiwo Adisa said the

process of the selection the next Alaafin is still at the infant stage and is still being handled at the local government level.

He said it is when the task is completed at the local government level that a report will be sent to the state government.

Olatunbosun said “As far as we are concerned, the move is a process, it has started and has not gotten to the state. It is still within the local government. Only the Chairman, Atiba local government can answer all questions yet.”

Corroborating the views, the CPS, Taiwo Adisa said the selection is Alaafin is guided by the Chieftaincy Declaration law of the state and so long the process conforms to the laws, the report will forwarded to the state level.

Adisa said “The Alaafin stool and selection of the Alaafin is guided by the Alaafin Chieftaincy Declaration of Oyo State which was signed into law by previous government of Oyo state.

“And as far as that is in operational, whatever they are doing will conform with that.

“Once they conform with that and bring it to the state government, that is when the Governor will act on it. But as for now, the process is still at the infant stage, at the local government level.”
