The bill to upgrade the 126-year-old Emmanuel Alayande College of Education (EACOED), Oyo has been signed by Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, making the College of Education a full-fledged University of Education.
The governor, who signed the bill on Monday in the Governor’s Office Exco chamber, noted that the event was historic because the state now has three state-owned universities.
He went on to say that the bill was even more important because education remains one of his administration’s pillars, as stated in his Roadmap for Accelerated Development 2019-2023.
The bill signed into law will be known as Oyo Law 2022, according to Governor Makinde.
Remember that earlier in November, the Oyo State House of Assembly passed legislation to convert the College of Education into a university, which was awaiting approval from the state governor.
With this approval, the university is expected to begin operations immediately, with additional activities to follow in the coming days.
