Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has declared that it would be difficult for any future administration to dismantle the institutions established by his government, insisting that they are designed to strengthen governance and ensure continuity in the state.

Gov. Makinde stated this on Thursday while commissioning the newly constructed office complex of the Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority (OYRLEA), noting that his administration would be remembered for establishing agencies that did not exist before he assumed office in 2019.

The governor listed OYRLEA, the Oyo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun, the Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency (OYSADA), the Project Performance Monitoring Agency, the Oyo State Mobilisation Agency for Socioeconomic Development (OYMASED), and the Oyo State Anti-Corruption Agency (OYACA) as institutions established to promote effective governance and long-term development.

He challenged future administrations to sustain the agencies, stressing that any government genuinely committed to the progress of Oyo State should strengthen the institutions rather than dismantle them.

According to Makinde, the rule of law remains fundamental to good governance, adding that respect for citizens’ rights and impartial enforcement of laws by security agencies promote order, attract investors and improve economic activities.

The governor also commended the Chairperson of OYRLEA, Justice Aderonke Aderemi (rtd), for her dedication to upholding the rule of law, saying he had no regrets appointing her to lead the Authority despite differences they had encountered at some points.

In his goodwill message, the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, congratulated the Authority on its achievements, describing the law establishing it as evidence of the legislature’s commitment to addressing practical governance challenges.

Ogundoyin said OYRLEA was responsible for enforcing laws relating to environmental protection, sanitation, waste control, road traffic management, open rearing and grazing, among other areas. He urged the Authority to discharge its responsibilities transparently and responsibly while calling on residents, traders, motorists, business owners, community leaders and other stakeholders to cooperate with its officials.

Chairperson of OYRLEA, Justice Aderonke Aderemi (rtd), described the commissioning of the new office complex and the unveiling of the Authority’s maiden magazine as significant milestones in efforts to strengthen law enforcement and maintain public order in the state.

She said the Authority had intensified enforcement of the Oyo State Open Rearing and Grazing Regulation Law through monitoring, public enlightenment and collaboration with traditional institutions, local governments, security agencies and other stakeholders to promote peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders.

Justice Aderemi commended Governor Makinde for his support and the State House of Assembly for providing the legislative framework for the establishment of the Authority.

The event was attended by the Deputy Governor, Bayo Lawal; former Chief Judge of Oyo State, Justice Badejoko Adeniji; President of the Customary Court of Appeal, Justice Tajudeen Abdulganiyu; Secretary to the State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde; and other government officials, traditional rulers, religious leaders, security commanders and dignitaries.
